How I discovered Aikido
I met Aikido 20 years ago, It all began with dating with my future husband, Aaron Cass, who is a chief instructor at Portsmouth Aikido. I’ve heard about Aikido before, but I didn’t know anything other than the name of this Japanese martial art. I watched him practice Aikdo at different dojos in the different cities and different countries for a decade. Around 10 years ago when our kids became old enough to try Aikido, I finally decided to hop on the mat with them and spend more time with my husband. It was an eye opening experience physically and mentally to feel where I am within the physical world and spiritual world. Around that time, I was already into Tai Chi practice and interested in some application form in the Long Form Yang Style Tai Chi Long Form, then starting Aikido to fill that gap of actual connections with other people in the martial way was very refreshing and almost confusing. Because of Tai Chi could be very ego centric practice, I was finding sometime very difficult to be truely honest with myself with Tai Chi movements. Aikido really helped me to get rid of my ego and be yourself and honest senses to you and your partners. I would say there is a special sense that you can only feel when it’s just right, and I’m always serching for the “Just Right Morment and Sense(s)” while I practice Aikido on the mat and sometimes off the mat. Most special about Aikido is you can practice any ocasion anywhere anytime with all different situations. You’ll understand what I’m saying when you come practice with us on the mat! See you on the mat!
